About Laura Hansen

Connecting with people has always played an important role in what drives me and continues to give me purpose in my professional life. My first foray in the instructional design world was a summer job teaching campers how to swim. My favorite part of the instructional design process is seeing learners utilize new skills, whether it be complying with a new policy or swimming in the deep end. I have over 10 years of corporate training experience and lead instructional design initiatives from identifying learning gaps to measuring results. I am skilled in e-learning, adult learning design, and Kirkpatrick methodology. As a Senior Instructional Designer at VCU Health System, I utilize my knowledge of adult learning theories to consult with business partners and create engaging training that sticks. I have developed online learning, games, job aids and videos for everything from new system launches to leadership training programs. I coach junior members of the learning team on instructional and visual design. In prior roles at the Federal Reserve and the State Corporation Commission, I gained expert-level experience in researching and creating training to promote compliance with complex and ever-changing laws and regulations.I leverage a Bachelors of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Masters of Human Resource Management to translate complex information into concise user-friendly content.I am also focused on putting my passions and talents to good use supporting causes I care about.
