About Laura Amico
When I became a journalist, my goal was to tell people’s stories. I saw myself out in neighborhoods, at school board and city council meetings, and working through a rolodex of phone numbers of trusted sources. At the beginning that’s what I did. I quickly learned though that journalism was so much more than this. It’s about connecting people to each other and the world around them. About creating spaces for all of us to learn from one another. And about illuminating the opportunities and possibilities that surface when we do connect and learn. Across my career I have held a variety of reporting and editing roles, but I have also mentored young reporters, built teams, served in cross-functional roles, spoken at conferences and live events, and developed a business from the ground up.
