ABOUT LAURA MINTON GARTON
I will never forget the awe I felt the first time I worked with a radiologist, as I watched her transform a 2D colorless image into an illustration of a living, breathing human. I watched her eyes as they paused carefully, deliberate to not overlook even a shadow, which could be her only clue to the life-altering malignancy lurking in the patient\'s tangled tissue. She was a detective, an encyclopedia, an artist, and a physician, all at once.I have spent a lot of time getting to know myself through my hobby of journaling. I have volumes of sacred personal journals that I have kept since I was an eight-year-old child who yearned to communicate internal and abstract subtleties in an external, concrete way. My diaries have wrinkled, leathery spines as proof of persistence and faded, tattooed pages as proof of thought. I am Contemplative. Deliberate. Inquisitive. Patient. And I am confident in my decision to pursue a career in diagnostic radiology.
