Leadership inside complex organizations is rarely as simple as org charts and job descriptions suggest.Over the past 20+ years working in IT infrastructure and service management, I’ve learned that much of the real work of leadership happens in the spaces between strategy and execution — translating direction into action, helping teams understand the “why” behind decisions, and carrying insights from the front lines back into the system.My career has largely been spent leading technical and operational teams responsible for critical infrastructure and service delivery. The work requires both precision and perspective: keeping systems stable while navigating evolving priorities, cross-organizational collaboration, and the human dynamics that shape how work actually gets done.Along the way, I’ve developed a particular appreciation for the translation work of leadership — making complex technical realities understandable, aligning teams across silos, and helping strategy become something that works in the real world.I’m continually curious about the subtle dynamics that determine whether strategy actually translates into trust, clarity, and momentum for teams.Lately I’ve also been sharing occasional reflections on leadership, systems thinking, and the quieter forces that shape how organizations function.If you enjoy thoughtful conversations about leadership, systems, and the realities of working inside complex organizations, we’ll likely have a lot to talk about.
