I COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES! Throughout my life, I fought against my natural state of being. I tried so hard to fit into the norm. When I began working with people diagnosed with disabilities, I realized my train of thought was not a flaw, but a SUPERPOWER. I began to see the ABILITY within any dis-ability. Problem solving became an opportunity to be creative. I saw unlimited potential instead of restriction. I became an expert at discovering superpowers of the individuals I served. There is nothing better than helping somebody reclaim a superpower that restored confidence, dignity, and sense of purpose. For over 2 decades, I wore many hats in my career and gained valuable lessons for my superpower tool kit. Little did I know I’d be using that tool kit in a most surprising way. When my brother approached me about joining our family’s 3rd generation survey firm, I was both excited and terrified. I loved the idea of working for my family’s business, but I was sensitive to the perception of special treatment because my last name was on the building. I needed to earn trust of team members who didn’t know me. I work with GRIT and a WHATEVER IT TAKES mindset. I wanted to prove by my ACTIONS that I could be trusted. While I built a solid reputation as a leader in my former career, this industry was outside my comfort zone. Our field and office staff must work with absolute precision to keep a city’s skyline or new construction intact; therefore, there is no room for coloring outside the lines. Thankfully, there was an OUTSIDE THE BOX plan for me. I do whatever it takes to sustain our amazing workplace CULTURE to ensure the greatest asset - OUR PEOPLE - feel VALUED. This is my dream job. I get to work at the business my grandfather founded 75 years ago, built on the same values (trust, accountability, respect, humility) that have been my North Star throughout life. In July of 2019 I hit the ground running with my same toolbox: Treat every human with DIGNITY LISTEN more & talk less Do the right things for the right reasons Under-PROMISE & over-DELIVER Always FOLLOW THROUGH I am 100% fulfilled. I get to work with the most amazing group of people I have ever known. The work they do amazes and humbles me every day. My big gift is I am encouraged to bring my AUTHENTIC self to work each day and continue to COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES!
