ABOUT LAURA MACDONALD
I’m a CPA with 10+ years of experience in accounting, audit, finance, and operations—and 8 years before that working independently and within nonprofits in roles spanning research, fundraising, HR, and event management. That mix means I don’t just understand the numbers—I understand the realities behind them. I do my best work with small to mid-sized, mission-driven organizations (for-profit or not) that are growing quickly, evolving rapidly, or feeling the strain of “figuring it out as they go.” My goal is to help these organizations that are doing good work in the world build the financial and operational foundations they need to scale sustainably and achieve their mission. Over the years, I’ve built a broad, hands-on skill set-Full-cycle accounting, audit readiness, and financial reporting -Budgeting, forecasting, and decision-support tools -Control design and process implementation -Venture capital fundraising support -HR administration, legal and regulatory support, and operational oversight (including IT teams) For the past 8 years, I’ve worked closely with—and been mentored by—C-suite leaders, not just reporting numbers but acting as a thought partner and advisor. Where I really add value is in messy environments: organizations that scaled quickly, operated lean for years, or are preparing for their next stage. I come in, make sense of what’s there, fix what’s broken, build what’s missing, and create systems that actually work. Then I help lead teams through audit, compliance, and whatever comes next. I value clarity, practical solutions, and steady progress. I stay focused and committed through complexity, especially when the work supports organizations making a positive impact.
