ABOUT LAURA SMITH
I bring over 15 years of experience leading and managing academic programs across undergraduate, graduate, and international contexts. I thrive at the intersection of strategic planning, operational execution, and student success. I’m energized by turning ideas into actionable programs—whether it’s enhancing graduate curricula, creating experiential learning opportunities, or building partnerships that expand access and impact for students. At the heart of my work is a genuine commitment to students as whole people. I help students take the next right step in their academic and professional journeys by connecting them with the tools, resources, networks, and opportunities they need to move forward with clarity and confidence.I love sitting down with a student, hearing what excites them (and what’s overwhelming them), and helping them untangle it. Whether they’re navigating a complicated academic decision, adjusting to graduate-level expectations, or trying to figure out how their degree connects to their career goals, I enjoy helping them make sense of it and build a plan that feels realistic and empowering.I’ve worked with students across ages, cultures, and life stages, and I try to meet each person where they are. I aim to create conversations that are honest and encouraging where students feel supported, but also challenged to take ownership of their goals. My career spans undergraduate, graduate, non-degree, and international programs across the U.S. and abroad. I bring extensive experience working with international students, global partners, and cross-border academic operations, primarily in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. My lived global experience abroad includes working in South Africa for four years, studying in Spain, Guatemala, and Mali, and leading study abroad programs in Costa Rica. All in all, I\'ve traveled to 30+ countries. and counting! These experiences shape how I approach leadership and my day to day interactions with cross-cultural awareness, adaptability, a global lens, and a sense of humor when things don’t go exactly as planned!Who I work with and how we work together matters deeply to me. I’ve been fortunate throughout my career to work alongside exceptional colleagues, leaders, and mentors who have shaped how I approach my work. I value collaboration, trust, and shared purpose. When there’s synergy, there\'s magic!
