Sport Welfare Officer for Cornwall as part of the Active Partnerships Sport Welfare Officer network.Funded through Sport England and the National Lottery, the Sport Welfare Officer network provides National Governing Bodies with additional, local safeguarding and welfare support for clubs from grassroots to professional. The role is to support NGB\'s and their local clubs to embed Welfare policies and practices, as well as promote good practice and an inclusive culture of safe sport for children, young people and adults.Engaging with local safeguarding organisations including the Local Authority Designated Officers, Safeguarding Children\'s Partnerships and Adult Safeguarding Board, to connect people working on Welfare and Safeguarding, both inside and outside Sport.Providing training to unskill the workforce across Cornwall, on a mission to to improve lives through Sport and physical activity.

ABOUT LAURA OUTTEN

I am the Regional Sport Welfare Officer for Active Cornwall, where I provide guidance and support on safeguarding and protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults within the local sports community. My focus is on promoting best practices to foster safe and positive environments that enable everyone to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.Over 12yrs experience in managing volunteers in the Higher Education, charity and private sector and on mass participation sports events including I Love Tour Easter Festivals (SalouFest, Croatia & Rimini). Developing volunteering programmes through project and financial management, balancing achievement of short-term delivery goals with sustainable long-term growth.I have implemented changes to improve services, reduce costs and optimise budget expenditure. As a manager I strive to create a stimulating, innovative and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive.I always act as a strong advocate of the organisation and I believe in providing opportunities to improve lives of individuals whether during my time within the Event sector or my current role. I utilise my strong interpersonal and communication skills to build long lasting relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and partners. I understand the importance of community engagement and promoting health and well being through empowering people to enjoy new experiences and be part of an enlarged team.As a keen equality, diversity and inclusion champion, I have made a deliberate move onto the Board of Trustees at Cornwall Pride in a bid to couple my event management skillset with my passion for helping people.My professional experience is underpinned by coaching at a Championship and County level and I am passionate about transferring lessons from High Performance Sport to leadership and management.
