2025 Knauss Fellow - Noaa Budget Office
Noaa National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration
Feb 2025 — Present · Silver Spring, MD, US
It is with a deep sense of public service (and cautious optimism!) that I am thrilled to officially announce my new position as a 2025 Knauss Fellow with the NOAA Budget Office’s Budget Formulation and Communications Division, NOAA Headquarters. Budget is policy. I cannot imagine a more important and exciting time to help formulate budget requests and communicate the value of NOAA’s programs to Congress and the incoming Administration. NOAA’s work is essential for the health, safety, and prosperity of all Americans: programs include lifesaving weather forecasting and prediction activities, satellite observation and data collection systems, deep sea exploration, coral reef conservation, fisheries management, and infrastructure projects that enhance the resilience of our coastal communities—and so much more.I’m particularly excited to gain insights into how budget formulation helps manage competing priorities while contributing to NOAA’s mission of protecting lives, property, and ecosystems. I have long admired NOAA’s mission, values, and vision, and the incredible people who work here. I’m deeply grateful to the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, my advisors and mentors at Rutgers, and extended network who helped me reach this point in my career. Thank you, Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students interested in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The Fellowship, named after one of Sea Grant’s founders and former NOAA Administrator John A. Knauss, matches highly qualified graduate students with \'hosts\' in the legislative and executive branches of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one-year paid fellowship.\"
