About Laura Garcia

Laura Garcia is pursuing a PhD in Health Services Research with a focus on Health Economics within the Health Policy & Management Department of Texas A&M University School of Public Health. Prior to beginning her doctoral career, she received her Master of Public Health in Health Policy & Management from Texas A&M University School of Public Health in 2014, which led to a career in healthcare management. While working with a private primary care practice in Dallas, TX, she improved clinical and operational workflows and policies and oversaw quality improvement projects, a successful EHR transition, and implemented patient satisfaction surveys, which led to recognition as a National Committee for Quality Assurance Patient-Centered Medical Home. She was then recruited to work corporately for Baylor Scott & White - HealthTexas Provider Network (HTPN) to manage the PCMH initiative for its 100+ primary care clinics in the North Texas region of the health system. During her tenure, she managed 12 new and 13 renewal PCMH recognitions for HTPN and 2 new recognitions for the Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance ACO. She has experience working collaboratively with ACOs and other health delivery organizations, which drives her research interests and goals of using data to advocate for value-based care and improving population health in a continuously changing healthcare environment.
