ABOUT LAURA COURAGE

I never dreamed I could be where I am today. I’ve always been extremely driven and dedicated in anything I do. And now, I’m a certification programme assurance professional with 9+ years’ of experience working for a global third-party certification scheme in the marine ingredient sector. The things that come most natural to me, and my career so far, have equipped me with the expertise and versatile skill set I have today. I’m able to navigate the intricacies of the world of assurance in my sector and possess expertise within our organisation, industry, ISEAL compliance, ISO norms, third party accredited certification schemes, and risk management. I’m skilled at identifying and driving strategic opportunities and development and problem-solving skills and eye for detail allow me to navigate and address complex challenges.I started at MarinTrust in 2016 and quickly progressed through various roles to my current position as Assurance & Risk Manager. I oversee the assurance, risk, and data governance systems, accreditation of Standards, lead teams, and report to governance committees and Board. I’m lucky my role allows me to contribute significantly to strategic objectives, ensuring credibility and relevance in the ever-evolving sector.I’ve achieved a lot during my time, consistently leading impactful initiatives, including successful ISEAL compliance, development of remote auditing measures in the face of COVID-19 to ensure operations could continue, shaping and implementation of our Theory of change and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning System, and introduced the Risk Management System to the board of directors, providing strategic insights and proactive risk management.I enjoy connecting with stakeholders and industry, steering the responsible practices, leading a dynamic assurance system, and driving strategic initiatives. I’m committed to ensuring the robustness, relevancy, and accessibility of our Programme, and we lead as an example to aspire towards. Right now, I’m excited to lead the innovative development of our recognition procedures to enable recognition of benchmark tools as well as other standards, to continue to driving positive change, promote sustainable practices, and grow in my leadership role. I hope to make a positive and lasting impact on the responsible and sustainable evolution of marine ingredient practices by consistently providing value for certificate holders, contributing to industry integrity, and acting as a force for positive change.
