ABOUT LAURA CELOTTO

I like connecting with people and connecting people with each other. I combine my research background in neuroscience and biology with a creative mindset and the attitude of a storyteller. I have robust writing and editing skills and a love for art, science and a combination of the two. During my PhD, I managed a complex research project on retina regeneration in full autonomy, but also by building efficient collaborations with excellent scientists worldwide. I learnt to browse, read and summarize critically the scientific literature in biomedical research. I practiced science writing for different target audiences using a very personal style, in English and in Italian. In the last year, I have been writing blog posts on recently published preprints in neuroscience, stem cell and developmental biology for the preLights community hosted by the British publisher \"The Company of Biologists\": https://prelights.biologists.com/?s=laura+celotto & datefrom= & dateto=. Moreover, I joined ASAPbio, the organization that aims at promoting the use of preprints to disseminate the latest findings in life sciences. Specifically, I interviewed several editors of scholarly journals about preprints and the future of scholarly publishing: https://asapbio.org/preprints-reproducibility-and-integrity-in-publications. I volunteered as a science animator in different science festivals (Trieste Next, The Dresden Long Night of Science), and I have been awarded for the concept and performance of my own science shows. I am the protagonist of the first episode of \"Auf Arbeit Mit.\", a YouTube series by the Technische Universität Dresden, where I explain my PhD research using the excellent acting skills that I developed as an amateur actress: I have outstanding presentation skills, thanks to my participation in international scientific congresses, where I have been awarded for the excellent graphics of my posters realized using Power Point and Adobe Illustrator. I honed my communication skills by attending the \"International Summer School Communicating Science\" organized by Wissenschaft im Dialog and the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation. I am committed to combine my scientific background with my creativity, in order to communicate the beauty of science in a clear, concise and compelling way. I would like to join creative healthcare agencies, pharmaceutical companies, journals or scientific organization where I can work as medical writer, associate editor, press release and communication officer.
