ABOUT LAURA MCPARTLAND

As a Research Scientist II, I am primarily responsible for flow cytometry panel design, data analysis, assay development, and instrument troubleshooting to meet the development requirements within corporate/client timelines and cost objectives. Previously, I was a Practice Facilitator/Senior Research Specialist on the Childhood Immunization Project at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. My role is to identify and help implement the best Evidence-Based Interventions for medical providers in rural Missouri to implement in their offices to increase child/adolescent vaccination rates and collected and assessed evaluation data from our 12 study clinics. In June 2024, I earned my PhD from the Immunology Graduate Program at Cincinnati Children\'s Hospital, conducting my thesis research in Dr. Steve Waggoner\'s lab. My dissertation research revolved around the genetic regulation of Natural Killer cells during viral infection and vaccination. In May 2019, I earned my Masters of Science (ScM) from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Molecular Microbiology and Immunology department. My thesis was conducted in Dr. Andy Pekosz’s virology lab on a project characterizing A/H1N1 LAIV viruses containing a novel mutation affecting to genome packaging and temperature sensitivity. I obtained an additional certificate in Vaccine Science and Policy through the department of International Health in August 2018. I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology from The University of Alabama, where I graduated cum laude, with a minor in the Computer-Based Honors Program. While at UA, I gained experience in genetics and cell biology through projects using Drosophila in a development and evolution lab in the Department of Biological Sciences. I also utilized GIS software through a project relating to diabetes education access in the Capstone College of Nursing, which resulted in a publication.
