ABOUT LAURA BANKS
I have a private practice in Barrie ON. I provide counselling to children, youth, families and adults. Early on in my fostering career we lost our son as a result of his unhealed trauma. His life mattered and what happened to him mattered. I remain committed to this work because of all that. I train for the Adoption Council of Ontario with adoptive, kin, permanency, and customary care parents. As a retired foster parent and an permanent parent I have spent many years living with children who have suffered adverse childhood experiences. I am grateful for the work of leaders in the neurobiology of trauma. My world changed for ever 20+years ago when I read, A boy raised as a dog, by Dr. Bruce Perry. I continue to learn and explore the research as this field grows. I am now taking the NMT certification. My current research interests are in both micro and macro level social work. I continue to learn and build skills in interventions to support healing for children, youth and adults. I am a life long learner!
