WhoPlusYou Inc. is a web based services company that has developed a portfolio of technologies that accurately match market needs (jobs, portfolio investments, personal peering) with individuals’ skills and objectives. Once matched people can connect instantly and share media interactively. Individuals now have new and completely differentiated career management tool. Employers now have a way to build a highly qualified candidate funnel, and stay connected with that talent. Was initially brought into the company to analyze the existing software, database and infrastructure and identify bottlenecks that would limit scalability as the use and deployment of the software surged into a significant growth phase. After completing the analysis, I was asked to join the team as a Senior Technical Advisor and, in that role, led the development team through a series of code and platform refactorings to remove those bottlenecks and which increased the scalability of the platform by orders of magnitude. This included moving the infrastructure from leased hardware in a datacentre to a dynamic, and far more scalable, reliable, and cost effective, infrastructure based on Amazon Web Services. On this new platform, changes to the database schema and the code increased performance by orders of magnitude while reducing database load by a similar amount. Designed and implemented the schema and core software changes necessary to prepare the software for internationalization and instituted a series of best practises that the development team is using to reduce errors and improve productivity.
