ABOUT LARRY LANDIS

Enjoy science/technology and have a BS Degree in Chemistry from Kent State University. Spent 2 years in Graduate School at Kent State working on Liquid Crystal Polymers. Spent many years working for Dr. J.E. Taylor (RIP) and learned a lot about real life Chemistry and had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Alfred Bader (Aldrich Chemical) on a few occassions.In 19••••05 was on staff at Premix Inc. in North Kingsville, Ohio as an Analytical/Research Chemist, Sr. Process Anaytical Chemist, and Lab Manager. In 2005 to 2018 I worked as the Director of Technology and Quality at IDI Composites International in Noblesville, Indiana. In July of 2018 I joined the staff of Mar-Bal Inc. as the Vice President of Material EngineeringIn 1995 as a Senior Process Analytical Chemist I met with Dr. Dave Cameron and Dr. Hector Casal to help develop the first FT-NIR Spectrometer for the SMC/BMC industry. After many days of development we made one of the first ever Bag Sampling devices (Bomem BagSamplir) that allowed a variety of pastes and resins to be measured for moisture, isocyante concentration, monomer content, and a host of other properties. After a few years in the development role I joined the Fuel Cell Group with two other chemists and was part of the Quantum Composites Division. It was during this time that I learned about electrical measurments (4 point probes, concentric ring devices, and other techniques). While those technicques were great in their own way there was a big desire to measure the through plane electrical conductivity of a bipolar plate. What was really needed was a device to measure electrical conductivity of the bipolar plate in the Z direction. This led to the building and design of the first through plane electrical conductivity instrument. A White Paper was published and I served as the Co-Chair on the US Fuel Cell team.
