Larry Klein is a 4-time Grammy-winning, 11-time Grammy nominated record producer, musician and songwriter who lives in Los Angeles Ca.After attending Calif State University Los Angeles Klein began his career as a bassist, playing with jazz artists Willie Bobo and Freddie Hubbard. He went on to perform with other jazz artists such as Carmen McRae, Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, and Dianne Reeves. Through a long and celebrated career, he has worked with a completely eclectic array of artists including Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Madeleine Peyroux, Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Peter Gabriel, Don Henley, Robbie Robertson, Diana Ross, Melody Gardot, Norah Jones, Thomas Dybdahl, Shawn Colvin, Rodney Crowell, Leonard Cohen, Lang Lang, Corinne Bailey Rae, Alison Krauss, Marianne Faithfull, JD Souther, and many more.He has composed for film and TV, as well as having played on many film scores, beginning with Martin Scorsese’s award-winning film “Raging Bull”. He went on to compose the underscore and produce the music for the Scorsese produced and Allison Anders directed film “Grace Of My Heart, which contained the Oscar-nominated Burt Bacharach-Elvis Costello song “God Give Me Strength”.He has done master classes and guest teaching at The Berklee School Of Music.He recently produced an album called \"Here It Is: A Tribute To Leonard Cohen for Blue Note Records / Capitol which consisted of the songs of his friend and collaborator Leonard Cohen re-imagined through a \"looking glass\" of working with the most prescient jazz musicians of this time, including Bill Frisell, Immanuel Wilkins, Nate Smith, Kevin Hayes, Greg Leisz, Larry Goldings, and Scott Colley, and featured Guest Artists Norah Jones, James Taylor, Iggy Pop, Gregory Porter, Luciana Souza, Mavis Staples, Nathaniel Raitleff, David Gray and Peter Gabriel.He recently played with Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs on their version of Chapman\'s classic \"Fast Car\" for the 2023 Grammys Show and played collaborated with Greg Phillanganes on the musical direction for the Emmy-winning Joni Mitchell / Gershwin Prize show at The Library Of Congress, playing on the show as well.He was recently approached by The Kennedy Center to produce a show folding the album out to include The National Symphony Orchestra, on which he collaborated with Grammy-winning arranger-composer Vince Mendoza to create a filmed concert that included Madison Cunningham, Don Henley, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Gregory Porter, Trisha Yearwood, and Ben Folds.

    Larry has been working producing records for the last thirty-some years, working with artists of almost every genre, from singer-songwriters like Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, and JD Souther to classical artists like Lang Lang and Renee Fleming, to alternative artists like Norwegian singer and songwriter Thomas Dybdahl, with whom he has done two albums. He has worked with such artists such as Herbie Hancock, Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones, Esperanza Spalding, Tina Turner, Billy Childs, Till Bronner, Rickie Lee Jones, Wayne Shorter and Luciana Souza, erasing the boundaries between jazz and other genres, and finding “the space between pre-existing categories”. He produced and co-wrote a solo record “Circus Money” for Steely Dan’s Walter Becker, and was musical director for 2 Walden Woods benefit shows with Don Henley, featuring artists such as Bjork, Stevie Nicks, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, Joni Mitchell, Reba Macintire, and others. He has won 4 Grammys, with 11 Grammy nominations, and 2 nominations for Producer Of The Year. He has composed music and underscore for feature films, and produced numerous artists tracks for film use, including songs for the David Mamet film “Redbelt”, and collaborating with songwriters like Burt Bacharach, Gerry Goffin, David Baerwald, as well as composing the underscore for the Martin Scorsese produced, Allison Anders directed film Grace Of My Heart”. Larry has played bass on artists\' records of every genre, from Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, to Bob Dylan, to Randy Newman, and Don Henley to Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Bobby Mcferrin, and Herbie Hancock. He also has been working in the academic world, teaching master classes at Berklee College Of Music, Humber College in Toronto Ca. and The Herbie Hancock Institute in Los Angeles. Larry has recently served on the NARAS Board Of Governors.
