Soon after graduation, Larry joined Strang in 1985 as a draftsman – truly an entry-level position. Over the years, Larry lived up to his promise, rising through the ranks from draftsman to CADD Manager then American Institute of Architects (AIA) registered architect, project manager, studio lead, LEED accredited professional, principal, and now, president and CEO. Not too bad for a country kid who used to pour concrete for a living. When Larry joined Strang, we had a staff of 23. Back then, the firm tackled modest commercial projects, elementary schools and churches. Presently, Larry oversees a staff of 60-plus, including architects, engineers, interior designers and construction administrators. Today’s assignments are highly complex science and technology laboratories, sustainable corporate structures, state-of-the-art higher education facilities and magnificent performing arts centers. When Larry joined the firm, 100 percent of our work was within the Greater Capital Region. Today, Strang’s counsel is sought and applied nationwide. Larry applies his trademark rigor towards client service, project leadership, community involvement and mentoring. Larry hones our business model based upon true servant leadership, accountability, sustainable design excellence and complete collaboration. In addition, his leadership team develops strategies to make our business less vulnerable to economic cycles and ever more responsive, even anticipatory of client needs. Larry has created a nurturing, family culture within the firm and is sincerely passionate about every colleague and client. He takes great pride in visiting a Strang-designed building. But to be sure, he takes a very close look at the masonry work. Some things shouldn’t change.
