ABOUT LARISA MOLDOVAN
I am a graduate psychologist (BPS member) with a background in healthcare and management, passionate about supporting individuals facing mental health challenges. My mission is to promote mental well-being, advocate for vulnerable populations, and contribute to a more just and compassionate society.For the past two years, I have worked at the Zalman and Ruchi Noé Centre for People Living with Dementia in Sandringham (Jewish Care), where I was honoured to be part of the Best Team of the Year 2023. This role gave me practical experience supporting people with cognitive decline and complex mental health needs, while deepening my empathy and knowledge of dementia care.I designed and led therapeutic activities to enhance cognitive stimulation, emotional well-being, and social engagement. This strengthened my public facilitation and organisational skills. Working closely with families, I developed compassionate communication and active listening skills, which contributed to the development of person-centred care plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures. These experiences enhanced my understanding of multidisciplinary teamwork and ethical responsibilities.Alongside dementia care, I contributed to a chronic pain management programme under the guidance of Consultant Dr. Andrew Lucas. This exposure to the biopsychosocial model of pain highlighted the importance of holistic, patient-centred care. I supported interventions addressing both physical pain and psychological impact, helping patients build coping strategies and emotional resilience. This experience broadened my ability to assist individuals with complex, long-term health conditions.I also provide support in housing, emotional recovery planning, and mental health advocacy, always prioritising individual needs, dignity, and independence.Fluent in English, Spanish, and Romanian, my multicultural background enriches my understanding of cultural, religious, and societal differences, especially among immigrants and refugees. This perspective guides my culturally sensitive approach, ensuring inclusive, respectful support.My academic research on discrimination based on foreign accents reflects my dedication to social justice and challenging systemic biases. I am committed to advocacy that fosters equity and empowers diverse communities.
