About Lara Werneck
As a daughter of two Brazilian immigrants, I was raised amidst a loving immigrant community. As I grew older, the obstacles that her family and other community members faced became evident. Their struggles sprouted a passion for helping immigrants and raising cultural awareness within me. My political science major has successfully mapped my navigation through the rigorous waves of controversial topics regarding immigration. I have interned for both local and nationally recognized non-profits while also gaining professional experience in the public as well as private legal sector; through various internships with establishments including the Boston Mayor\'s Office for Immigrant Advancement, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA), and Project Citizenship. I am currently working at The Justice Center as an Immigration Paralegal to gain experience and pursue my passion in the area of immigration law before attending law school! My passion has continued to blossom amidst my volunteering with organizations such as the PAIR project as well as tutoring positions with both the Intergenerational Literacy in Chelsea as well as the Petey Greene Program. Additionally, I am the co-founder of Migration Tales, a multi-media platform that aims to amplify migrant and first-generation American voices. As a highly motivated, dedicated, driven, and versatile BU Alum I am looking to apply my knowledge and continue to pursue my passion in additional volunteer opportunities!
