About Lara McCormick
I\'m a broadly trained four-field anthropologist with over 20 years of teaching experience, 10 years of ethnographic field experience, 20 years of archaeology experience, and over twenty years of hard tissue histology experience, I\'m interested in bone \"health\"- and how it is impacted by activity, nutrition, and disease, as well as how it is determined by researchers. I am a bit of a dilettante and my research interests are varied. I have supervised undergraduate and graduate student projects in a variety of topics (indigenous footwear, trauma analysis, human variation, bone histology, osteobiographies, etc.). As an educator, my teaching philosophy is very much inspired by Lev Vygotsky, particularly with his emphasis on using technology as an effective teaching tool and the impact of the peer group and mentors on the ability of the learner. I am a very kinesthetic learner, as such, my teaching methods tend to be kinesthetic as well. I am a type 1 diabetic and maintain constant self education with new and improved technology related to insulin based therapies. I consider myself fluent in the art of health insurance communications. In my spare time I like to read historical fiction, biographies, knit, sew, and spin yarn.
