About Landon MacKey

Electrical power and electronic equipment have been my passion as long as I can remember. One of my favorite photographs of myself as a child is of me building my first transistor radio as a young boy. The circuits and power electronics that I now use are far more sophisticated than a transistor radio, and my passion for the field has grown with that sophistication. At a young age I found myself drawn to the armed services and with stunning evaluations on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), I received multiple distinguished offers and found my calling in the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, where I served as a Nuclear Submarine Electrician for six years. I expanded my expertise through qualifying all senior watches as an electrician, and continuing to qualify both reactor operations and mechanical watch stations. I assisted the ship through an extensive overhaul period in which I coordinated activities and testing with shipyard entities.Following military service, I was continued to hone my skills as and electrician and mechanic, while directly interfacing with customers as an overhead crane technician for KoneCranes, Inc. Working in hazardous environments such as chemical plants, steel mills, and mines cultivated a passion for excellence in occupational safety.I defended my Doctorate of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering at North Carolina State University in 2019 with research into high speed protection systems capable of protecting offshore DC and pulse power renewable energy generation, resulting in four industrial US patents on the technology. While completing graduate studies, I started WATER BROS Desalination, with my co-founder, Dr. Wesley Williams. Most recently I joined C-Power as a Senior Research and Development electrical engineer to continue my career research of developing wave energy systems. Through C-Power and Water Bros I hope to continue bringing clean drinking water and electricity to communities in need through the power of ocean waves.

   As the Lead Systems Engineer at C-Power, I work with our talented electrical and mechanical design teams, and hydrodynamic modeling and simulations group to synthesize the technologies required to make power at sea. These solutions are matched with the needs of our customers through the Partner Engagement and Co-Development (PEC) Program to ensure the marine energy industry progresses towards meeting the unique needs of at-sea operators and coastal communities to deliver clean, reliable, and sustainable energy.
