About Lance Powell

As Product Manager at Remio, a VR social gaming app on the Meta Store, I facilitate communication, decision-making, and task management across cross-functional and remote teams, including front-end and back-end development, design, marketing, executives, and our community. I track performance through analytics and industry trends to find the greatest opportunities while allowing for a community-directed approach to the roadmap, instilling loyalty and empowerment amongst players.Additionally, I lead customer relations and event management for the Remio Enterprise app, hosting top companies for their education programs, remote keynotes, and off-sites.Between our main app, REMIO, and our additional App Lab apps, I\'ve helped REMIO reach close to 100K MAU and half a million lifetime installs within a year.Previously at REMIO, I held a Head of Product role (officially CTO) with the XR/AI for education company VEDX Solutions, where I managed small development teams towards building apps and prototypes for distribution to our partner schools such as Hoquiam and career education apps for our workforce clients like Equus Works. My experience in VR development and design, which led to product management, began at the VR First\'s flagship laboratory in Bahcesehir University, where I had a more than three-year residency, and Bogazici University, where I obtained an M.A. in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Computer Engineering and Linguistics. What began as an intensive program of education in XR development and design, resulting in a thesis on \"A Framework for Understanding and Detecting Harassment in Social VR,\" turned into a venue for collaboration with developers, a half year of design for an XR tourism and education platform that became an incubator candidate called History Reborn, and finally, teaching an accredited university course called Virtual Worlds.Throughout this experience, I maintained a blog on XR, launched the world\'s longest virtual book tour, presented at over a dozen conferences and festivals (AWE, Sonaar Festival, etc.), launched parenting groups for social VR, written and self-published a quarterly magazine about social VR, and advised other educators on their XR education programs.
