The WSO2 Distinguished Engineer (DE) program recognizes our most accomplished and experienced engineers with deep knowledge in specific areas of technology. Becoming a DE requires a proven long-lasting track record of successful contributions to technology in general and to products in particular. A DE is acknowledged as peer by other Distinguished Engineers from various companies worldwide. Also, a DE is sought as an advisor on technical issues by C-level executives within WSO2 as well as with our customers, and, thus, is an influencer of the technical strategy of companies. A DE represents WSO2’s engineering excellence at major industrial as well as scientific conferences. Within the company, a DE is a role model for other engineers and a mentor for technical high-potentials.

ABOUT LAKMAL WARUSAWITHANA
Lakmal Warusawithana is a Vice President and Distinguished Engineer at WSO2. As part of WSO2’s Engineering team, he is a subject matter expert in cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes, and Platform Engineering.Lakmal has a long history of working in Open Source, Cloud, and DevOps technologies and has been Vice President of Apache Stratos PaaS Project and team lead of WSO2 Private PaaS team.Lakmal has also presented at numerous events, including ApacheCon, CloudOpen, QCon, JaxLondon, Cloud Expo, Cloudstack Collaboration Conference, WSO2Con, KubeCon, ContainerCamp, and many tech meetups.Lakmal is also a visiting lecturer for the University of Westminster, London, and Robert Gordon University, Scotland, at the IIT Campus Sri Lanka, where he teaches Cloud Computing Application to MSc students. Lakmal holds a BSc (Hons) Special in Computer Science from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
