ABOUT LAKIYA THOMPSON-JENKINS

A native of Grand Rapids, MI LaKiya is dedicated to advocating for equitable opportunity and policy for all communities. She currently serves as the Executive Director at LINC UP, where she leads the organization in revitalizing neighborhoods through authentic engagement, expanding housing opportunities, and developing leadership and capacity among residents and grassroots organizations. Under her leadership, LINC UP has secured and overseen over $8 million in project, program grants, and sponsorships. She has developed and trained over 700 residents in racial equity, systems thinking, advocacy, and community empowerment strategies. Additionally, she has expanded and maintained quality affordable housing for over 300 families in Kent County and invested $1.8 million in minority and low-income contractors within Greater Grand Rapids. Her efforts have ensured the success of LINC efforts with multi-generational impact by improving household income for hundreds of families and coordinating services across multiple non-profit organizations and employers.With over 15 years of experience, LaKiya is a creative and passionate executive leader and advocate, committed to increasing access to opportunities and improving conditions to ensure equitable outcomes for all. She is adept at identifying and implementing process improvements to drive efficiency and productivity. As a motivating leader, LaKiya has a proven track record of developing highly functional staff for overall company growth.In addition to her role at LINC UP, LaKiya has also served on the leadership team of the Greater Grand Rapids Racial Equity Network, as Co-Chair of the Southtown Corridor Improvement District and as Co-Chair of the Grand Rapids Participatory Budget Process. LaKiya’s experience in establishing targeted approaches that ensure connectedness and expanded opportunities for those in greatest need position her well to serve in these capacities.LaKiya has been recognized for her contributions to the field and was selected to be National Equity Project R.E.A.L. Center Fellow and a recipient of the Grand Rapids NAACP Social Equity Award. She is also Leadership Grand Rapids 2021 graduate. In her personal time LaKiya also serves on local boards and committees supporting youth within Greater Grand Rapids.
