About Laila Robinson
Hi!I’m Laila Robinson (she/her), a student at Oakland High School studying Environmental Science. My work focuses on environmental justice, urban ecological restoration, and community-led policy change that builds resilient and equitable futures.Growing up in the Bay Area has shaped my understanding of how environmental issues connect with equity, education, and public health, inspiring my commitment to solutions that are both sustainable and just.My journey began at Oakland High, where I founded my school\'s native gardening club and launched the True Nature Environmental Restoration Foundation chapter, and organized hands-on restoration and outreach events connecting students with local ecosystems. With Friends of Sausal Creek, I serve on the Lower Watershed and Nursery Committees and as a Student Representative on the Board of Directors, coordinating volunteer projects in riparian restoration, native plant propagation, and habitat rehabilitation. I also lead watershed education for local students, facilitating creek-based learning experiences that highlight the value of urban waterways. As a Community Environmental Health Fellow with the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment, I collaborate with Regional Asthma Management & Prevention (RAMP) to address pollution and environmental health inequities across California. I also serve on the Youth Advisory Board for Youth on Root, where youth leaders design and facilitate statewide programs advancing environmental justice.From conducting water quality and ecological research at Lake Merritt to developing climate justice curriculum and restoration toolkits, my work centers on empowering youth and frontline communities to restore both ecological and social well-being.I’m dedicated to building equitable, sustainable communities through education, research, and policy.
