ABOUT IAN LAIDLAW

I act as a bridge between business needs and technology capabilities. A primary function of my role is to align technology solutions with business goals, optimize processes, and ensure seamless collaboration between key stakeholders. Some of my core duties include: • Optimized Acturis functionality to enhance efficiency, enabling broker teams to focus on sales and risk advice. • Review and align workflows and processes to improve overall effectiveness. • Assess and improve training and support to ensure timely and adequate resources for users. • Foster collaboration and teamwork by streamlining processes with stakeholders and reducing bureaucracy. • Create fiscal alignment between departments and stakeholders. • Assess and optimize the use of other technologies to benefit business departments. • Improved acquisition integrations onto Acturis, ensuring seamless transitions. Who am I? My career began at Baron Insurance, where I managed insurer relationships, negotiated contracts, handled complex claims, and oversaw staff. Starting from the bottom, I gained comprehensive knowledge of brokering, from small boat policies to large contractor bonds. After selling our family brokerage, I played a key role in negotiating the sale, managing due diligence, and transitioning staff. At Westland, I started as a Commercial Manager and quickly advanced to oversee all Commercial operations in Interior BC. Under my leadership, our team became the second-highest producing in BC with minimal staff turnover. Leveraging my IT background, I became Manager of National Commercial Projects, focusing on integrating Acturis, our Broker Management Software. My team and I configured systems, customized software, and managed the migration of over 200 offices and thousands of users. Currently, I am the Director of a newly established office at Westland called the Business Technology Enablement Office.
