ABOUT LAI-KAY CHEUNG
I am a skilled lab scientist with a proven track record in managing multiple projects, have managed a junior member and trained numerous junior team members. My work focuses on optimising the cell line development process, engineering the proprietary cell line and FACS sorting for the team.Throughout my career, I have successfully constructed numerous complex vectors for cell line manipulation and generation of stable cells. By employing automation, cell-based assays, and phenotypic assays, I have successfully selected cells with desirable characteristics for complex antibody production at high titres. In my current role, I have successfully engineered the proprietary host cell line, sorted and selected a clone that is more superior than the licensed commercial cell line in terms of small complex molecule production and stability. This new host cell line and the resulting stable clone from the test campaign are in the process of replacing the commercial host cell line and production cell line to free the company of royalty-bearing commercial licenses. At Lonza, I played a key role in evaluating the Beacon system and providing data to support the launch of the GS piggyBac transposon system. This combination is now offered to clients as a more superior method of generating stable cell lines for manufacturing. My ability to prioritize tasks, collaborate effectively within a team, and work independently towards set goals has contributed to my success in publishing a peer-reviewed paper during my PhD (Genes & Development. Additionally, I have written reports, patents, risk assessments and SOPs in my current and past roles. I have consistently delivered strong results, earning the Best Overall Student Award (funded by Geneflow) for my performance in the MSc program in 2009.
