ABOUT LACY THURMAN

Passionate about workplace safety and dedicated to upholding the integrity of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) profession, Lacy Thurman is a servant leader with over a decade of experience in construction safety, training, and COR/SECOR program implementation. As a strong advocate for mentorship, she believes in supporting new OHS practitioners and is always happy to lend a hand—or an ear—to those navigating the industry. Currently serving as a Safety & HR Coordinator at Norellco Contractors Ltd, Thurman leads health and safety initiatives, COR certification, and worker training and competency programs. Their career spans various leadership roles with the Alberta Construction Safety Association, including Health and Safety Instructor, Senior COR Audit Analyst, and Project Lead for SECOR Modernization, where she played a key role in shaping industry standards and training safety professionals. She has extensive experience in leading, planning, and facilitating workshops and safety seminars, ensuring engaging and effective learning experiences for workers and industry professionals. A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Thurman holds a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Alberta (with Distinction) and a Training and Instructional Development Certificate from NAIT. Her commitment to professional development is evident through continued education in risk management, ISO 45001 auditing, and change management. Since 2018, she has volunteered with the Alberta Society of Health and Safety Professionals, actively contributing to the growth and integrity of the profession. Beyond her expertise, Thurman brings kindness, humor, and a love for puns to their work. She believes that a positive and engaging approach fosters stronger safety cultures. When not championing workplace safety, she enjoys traveling and exploring new places—because safety should be practiced everywhere, not just on the job!
