ABOUT MICHAEL PRICE

Experienced software engineer with many years of experience in building enterprise-level software. I\'ve done professional development in many languages over the years, but my preference is back-end development in languages like Java, Python, and Golang. My specialty is the development of APIs for the control plane; I\'ve designed, developed, and tested many APIs that are utilized in the cloud, data centers, universities, and national laboratories across the globe.My focus these days is on designing scalable, distributed Java-based services to support cloud infrastructure. My focus is on the compute space, but my work requires collaboration with dozens of other teams across multiple orgs, and expertise in a variety of disciplines, including: block storage, object storage, compute, and telemetry. I currently tend to split my time 50/40/10, with a bias towards feature/architecture design, but plenty of hands-on development in key areas. I dedicate approximately 10% of aggregate time for mentoring and teaching/training at a variety of impact levels. I enjoy public speaking and routinely deliver presentations on technical topics to large audiences.I have a strong personal interest in metrics, instrumentation, alerting, and time-series data visualization. A large portion of my development focus is on making data available in a useful form so that we can make the right decisions for our customers and our services.I\'ve contributed directly to Ansible and OpenStack, and I\'ve developed many tools and integrations over the years using Grafana, InfluxDb, Telegraf, Docker and related tools to better provide and operate quality software for our customers.I believe that customer focus, domain knowledge, and excellent communication skills are what make good software engineers great software engineers. Technical excellence is always key, but adjacent knowledge and soft skills are huge differentiators.
