About Kyra Kwek
I spent most of my life in Singapore before moving to the United States when I was 16. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to travel to neighboring countries, which developed my adoration for culture, diversity, and tradition. I am a rising junior at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering. I am particularly interested in applications concerning advanced materials, with one of my greatest ambitions being to explore and revolutionise new grades of antimicrobial materials that leverage the integration of biological systems with high-performance polymers. My approach to engineering can be summed up through the wise words of Buckminster Fuller: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” Some of my soft and hard skills acquired over my years in and out of the classroom include- Leadership - Organization - Creativity - Problem-solving - CAD design (Autodesk Fusion360 & SOLIDWORKS)- Report writing - Mentoring - Bilingual capability in English and Mandarin Outside the professional realm, I can be found spending hours on the Jiu Jitsu mats, either training or competing. I consider myself a lifelong learner. Regardless of the environment I am placed in, I end each day ensuring that I know one more thing than the day before. As such, I have gained experience in a plethora of areas, from learning coding languages (C++, HTML, Python, MATLAB) to providing exemplary customer service from working at the local grocery store after school. Engineering school has taught me to create diffusion profile models among many other cool things. Jiu Jitsu has unveiled the importance of simply showing up. Life has taught me that the true measure of people is not by their skin color, religion, or background, but rather, by the size of their heart. Connect with me at k••••••••@utexas.edu
