About Kyle Johnson

My father was a heavy equipment mechanic in the Navy, so growing up he’s always had me in the garage helping him build and repair. We’ve fixed totaled vehicles, built additions to my childhood home, and created dozens of ice houses and hunting shacks (growing up in Northern MN will do that to you). It was in these experiences that I developed a knack for working with my hands, and a deep desire to understand how things work. Fueled by this, I was led to allot of discovery by disassembling and reassembling items I would find around the house. Simply looking as the parts, how they’re wired, how certain features touch others, almost immediately I understood it. There was really no doubt in my mind that I’d grow up to be an engineer.Just out of high school I had an opportunity to leave home for the summer and get my hands dirty working on the railroad. Working 12 hour shifts, seven days a week, hundreds or miles from home in the Canadian wilderness - you learn allot about yourself. Like hard work, getting along with people new people, dealing with stress, and most importantly; that I wanted to be on the side that makes things and less so the side that uses things.I graduated from NDSU in 2015. After holding several internships throughout my collegiate career to really solidify my passion, and I made the choice to move to the automotive capital of the US, Detroit, where I can put my skills to the test.
