About Kyle Spencer

With an extensive public accounting background in tax and advisory I have enjoyed the ability to build and grow my skills in research, analysis, project management, data governance, integrity, security and management, leadership, and talent development. Deploying these skills across multiple industries from gas and oil to big tech has further strengthened communication skills and the ability to connect multiple seemingly unrelated concepts and ideas.Over the years my passion for visualization, analytics, and data management and integrity has grown. These passions are strongest in their application to economic statistics and sports. In the age of big data, it is more important than ever to ensure that the data being procured, analyzed and presented is of the highest quality and integrity. In the hopes of moving my career into the economic data space I dove into the challenge of pursuing a Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics at VCU. I am eager to continue this journey hopefully on a path that provides the ability to impact economic analysis and policy development in the future.Outside of work I thoroughly enjoy exploring data related to economic topics both big and small, as evidenced by some of the article I have written about home prices, and Chipotle’s market valuation. As an avid sports fan and former college athlete getting my hands on sports related datasets is very exciting and enjoyable as well. The exploration and summary dashboard I created of the ESPN TOP 300 over the past decade was not only enjoyable but gave me the opportunity to learn some new tricks of the trade when it comes to data scraping, automation, consolidation, and quality control. Beyond all the ones and zeros though, I am happiest when engaging with people and being active, whether that activity is traveling to new destinations, hitting the gym or the track, and of course spending quality time with the four legged friend (dog).
