About Kyle Peterson
Kyle Peterson has led a major foundation, built a world class strategy consulting firm, and launched novel health interventions that have saved thousands of lives in the developing world. Kyle is a thought leader on philanthropy, corporate social engagement, and international development. Prior to Boldly Go Philanthropy, Kyle served for more than three years as the Executive Director of the Walton Family Foundation. He was the third leader of this 30-year old organization. In this capacity, Kyle oversaw one of the country’s largest private foundations, growing the staff by 50 % and building the infrastructure to support $600 million in grant making, across education, environment and economic development program areas. Before the Walton Family Foundation, Kyle was a leader at FSG, a global non-profit consulting firm that serves the social sector. Kyle launched this organization along with founders Professor Michael E. Porter at the Harvard Business School and Mark Kramer. During his 14 year tenure, Kyle served as managing director and board member and led more than 150 consulting projects in the areas of strategy, program design, organizational development and evaluation. Kyle also contributed to several key publications that have influenced organizations around the world, such as “Creating Shared Value” featured in the Harvard Business Review and “Collective Impact” in the Stanford Social Innovation Review. Before joining FSG, Kyle was a strategy consultant at the Monitor Group and a country director in Zimbabwe and Rwanda for Population Services International. In those countries, Kyle launched a number of novel health programs that averted thousands of cases of HIV/AIDS and malaria. He was also a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone. Kyle holds an MBA and MPA from the University of Texas (McCombs School of Business and Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs) and a B.A. in international studies (cum laude) from American University.Kyle has served as a board member for FSG, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and the Global Health Council. He was the inaugural Board Chair for the Equitable Facilities Fund (a novel revolving loan fund for charter schools across the country). Kyle is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
