ABOUT KYLE RETTBERG

I represent clients in complex commercial litigation in federal and state trial and appellate courts throughout the country with a concentration on defending financial services firms. I also serve as my firm\'s General Counsel. In that role, I am responsible for all legal matters for the firm, and counsel the firm\'s lawyers and management on various legal and professional responsibility issues.I defend major brokerage firms in Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrations relating to various investment products, including equities, auction rate securities, hedge funds and alternative investments. I also defend such firms in state and federal courts against various consumer class action and fraud-based claims.In addition to my work on behalf of securities brokerage firms, I have industry-diverse experience in managing complex commercial litigation. I have defended numerous securities fraud and consumer fraud class actions, as well as shareholder derivative, business tort and contract cases for clients in the telecommunications, technology, media, credit card and banking sectors.My litigation capabilities also extend to appellate matters. I have successfully argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.I am also committed to serving pro bono clients. Sidley Austin LLP awarded me the Thomas H. Morsch Award for Pro Bono Achievement in recognition of my successful representation of a Mauritanian refugee seeking political asylum in the United States. My other pro bono experience includes first-chairing a breach-of-contract trial in Illinois state court and representing a criminal client in a post-conviction appeal before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
