About Kyle Manley
I specialize at the intersection of global change ecology and social-ecological systems, broadly interested in how climate change impacts people through impacts to ecosystems. I am a currently at the University of Colorado Boulder and EarthLab as a CIRES Visiting Postdoctoral Research Fellow, working with Dr. Laura Dee and Dr. Jennifer Balch. I received my PhD from the University of California Irvine in the Department of Earth System Science and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado Boulder in the Department of Environmental Studies. My work harnesses cutting-edge tools, from data-driven modeling to digital mobility data, to deepen our understanding of the invaluable yet under-appreciated, non-material benefits we derive from nature and how these benefits are threatened by global change.

Lead on a project quantifying how wildfire and prescribed fire affect public-land visitation, delivering decision-ready insights for fire management and climate adaptation- Collaborator on global wildland–urban interface analyses using optical and thermal remote sensing to assess how urbanization intensity shapes fire behavior and impacts on people. Lead on a sub-analysis in the Western US- Contributing to the development of Earth Lab’s FIREDpy fire-perimeter delineation algorithm (feature development, validation, and documentation)- Contributing author, USGS Biodiversity and Climate Change Assessment — Chapter 7: Biodiversity, People’s Values, and Nature’s Contributions in a Transboundary Context. Leading a spin-off sub-analysis of transboundary sociocultural flows- Contributor to various projects: distribution of wildfire mitigation across the Western US; analyzing the status of nature-based solutions across U.S. cities; improving seasonal fire risk quantification; BCCA report sub-analyses on transboundary human movement and a synthesis project
