About Kylar Dee

Hi! I’m Kylar, a proud Spelman College alumna with a B.A. in English and Political Science. My journey with writing began back in second grade when I discovered my passion for creative expression, and that spark has only grown brighter since. I’m proud to have served as the Editor-in-Chief of The Blueprint, Spelman College’s legendary newspaper that I helped revive in 2021. Leading this charge has been a thrilling experience, ensuring our team consistently delivers relevant and compelling stories to Spelmanites. Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to represent The Blueprint at Harvard\'s Journalism Conference, where I co-presented on our journey to restart the newspaper and shared its rich history. My experience extends beyond the newsroom; I’ve volunteered at Spelman on Research Day, worked as an assistant in the English Department, supported various journalists, and engaged with political leaders like Stacey Abrams. Through my work, I’ve had the privilege of interviewing inspiring figures such as Heather Lowery, the visionary behind Femme It Forward; Dr. Imani Perry, a National Book Award winner for Non-Fiction; and esteemed New York Times journalist Charles M. Blow. These experiences have reinforced my belief that storytelling and communication are at the heart of making a difference. I was a Communications Intern at The Carter Center, an HBCU Digital Media Fellow for the Online News Association, and an HBCU Newsroom Fellow for Open Campus Media. When I’m not immersed in my work, you can find me cat sitting, diving into great fiction, or exploring beautiful architecture—I’m an avid fan of Architectural Digest and love taking in the sights of stunning designs.
