As a Physician Assistant in the Cardiac Surgery ICU, Step-Down Unit, and Critical Care units at GW Hospital, I provide care to critically ill patients, including those undergoing complex cardiac surgeries and organ transplants. My responsibilities include- Managing pre-operative and post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients, including those with mechanical circulatory support (IABP, Impella, ECMO)- Overseeing post-operative recovery and managing critically ill patients in the ICU and step-down unit- Providing comprehensive care to liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant patients, including both pre- and post-operative management- Performing a variety of bedside procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, chest tube management, and wound care- Managing complex ventilator settings, sedation, and pain management in the critical care setting- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for critically ill patients- Delivering patient and family education on complex medical conditions, surgical procedures, and recovery processes
