About Kusay Ali
As an Officer with HNTB, I enjoy leading large-scale mega transportation projects and programs. Currently, as part of the general engineering consultant team, I work closely with the Texas Department of Transportation Austin District to provide PS & E oversight on the Mobility 35 Program. I am passionate about continuously seeking innovative design and construction opportunities to help our client meet their project and program goals on time and within budget. Throughout my career, I was fortunate to have been part of multiple landmark projects that improved mobility and greatly enhanced our overall quality of life. In fact, my prior project and program experience include the I-55 cloverleaf interchange near Canton, Mississippi where I functioned as part of the roadway design team, the METRO Light Rail in Houston, Texas, where I provided project management, roadway design, and construction phase services for the 6-mile southeast corridor. I later assumed the role of deputy program manager for the Ship Channel Bridge Program to support the Harris County Toll Road Authority in preliminary engineering and final design plans for the one billion dollar improvements to span the Houston Ship Channel via a 1,320 ft. cable stayed bridge. In early 2019, I relocated to Austin, Texas to be part of the City of Austin’s Corridor Program Office where I served as project manager to lead the delivery of the Burnet Road schematic and environmental.Project management coaching is another skill I developed and enjoyed as I embarked on my career journey. I have coached hundreds of junior engineers and aspiring project managers on the body of knowledge developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI). I find it intriguing that despite the varying disciplines and technical background of my students, the basic project management principles such as the project knowledge areas, life cycle, and WBS, all applied across these disciplines. In my free time, I enjoy technology, innovation, and patent research. I hold a license to practice patent law before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Reg. No. I also had the privilege to live and travel throughout different parts of the world including Europe, Russia and the Middle East. This experience has increased my knowledge in intercultural communication and further broadened my worldview.
