ABOUT KUNYI MANGALAM

I offer clients a deep understanding of their audience (customers, would-be customers, employees, suppliers, other stakeholders…) so that they can formulate sounder decisions, find more opportunities, and make progress. My feet are firmly planted in the qualitative research world, working in problem space research (how people reason and behave to achieve a goal apart from a particular tool or product), and solution space research (that which focuses on a product, service, or idea). I work in-person, virtually, via the telephone, in focus group rooms… I embrace technology as a route to gaining a better understanding of what people think, feel, do, opine, prefer, and how they behave. As one of my colleagues put it, I was doing virtual focus groups before there “were” virtual focus groups. I develop strategic alliances with those whose interests and skills complement my own: brand strategy, digital marketing, customer experience, business ethnography, problem-space research, service design; innovation, design thinking. I invest heavily in finding the right people to work with; clients benefit hugely from these collaborative alliances. I invest heavily in education and training: I undertook a User Analyst certification just to understand how designers and developers will use my ‘product’. I ask to intern with people who I can learn from. I attend UX, qualitative research, and creativity conferences; I continue to soak up knowledge, techniques, and applications.
