About Kuan-Ju Chen
I’m a New York State Registered Architect and Certified Passive House Designer with more than a decade of experience spanning architecture, interior design, and emerging design technologies. My professional background includes affordable and market‑rate residential projects, mixed‑use developments, and transportation infrastructure for the Long Island Rail Road. I’ve also worked on projects in New York City, Florida, Mexico, and Brazil. I hold a Master of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology, where I developed the rigorous and detail‑oriented approach that continues to shape my work today.Over the years, I’ve built deep expertise in BIM and design technology leadership. I support teams by helping them work more confidently and efficiently—whether through project setup, troubleshooting, workflow optimization, or the adoption of new digital tools. I’m known for clear communication, thoughtful problem‑solving, and bridging the gap between design ambition and technical execution. My experience includes developing Revit standards, project templates, and BIM best‑practice resources; coordinating multi‑model environments across large interdisciplinary teams; and creating and teaching training sessions on Revit and AI applications.I’m also actively involved in the broader design community. I previously co‑chaired the Social Science and Architecture Committee at AIA New York, curating programs at the intersection of design, data, and research. Since my student years, I’ve volunteered with Open House Chicago and Open House New York as a greeter and ambassador for architecture and public engagement. My professional interests include design technology, sustainability, mass timber, modular and design‑build delivery, and human‑centered design research.Outside of work, I’m an abstract artist focused on painting and printmaking. I also enjoy traveling, exploring new restaurants, jigsaw puzzles, language learning, audiobooks, crafting, and photography.I always welcome meaningful conversations—whether about design technology, architecture, or shared interests.
