As part of the Volunteer Services team at Barts Health NHS Trust, I play a key role in supporting the recruitment, onboarding, administration, and management of over 900+ active volunteers across the Trust, helping ensure they are well-prepared to support patients, staff, and the wider community.My responsibilities include Leading the end-to-end onboarding process for new volunteers, including application processing, document verification, and orientation. Coordinating with third-party providers for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and Occupational Health assessments to ensure regulatory compliance. Conducting interviews with prospective volunteers to assess their skills, suitability, and alignment with service needs. Managing and continuously improving volunteer records and the onboarding process using Better Impact software, identifying ways to enhance efficiency. Delivering training and mentorship to new admin volunteers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and tools to succeed. Performing a wide range of administrative tasks, including document reproduction, filing (physical and electronic), and database management. Managing the official email account of the Barts Health NHS Trust Volunteering Department, ensuring clear, timely, and professional communication with volunteers, applicants, and internal teams. Handling telephone communications and providing general support to volunteer applicants and existing volunteers. Supporting compliance through regular audits, DBS checks, and Occupational Health processes. Collaborating with a close-knit team of 4 admin volunteers and NHS managers to process 30+ new volunteer applications every week, while ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of volunteer operations.This role has allowed me to develop strong skills in administration, process improvement, people management, volunteer engagement, and stakeholder communication, all within a dynamic, high-volume healthcare environment.
