ABOUT KHADIJA SHAMISA

What does it mean to make a good decision? My B.A. in International Relations gave me a background to answer this question. While I sharpened my reading, writing, research, and critical thinking skills, I learned that our world is challenged with its dynamism and complexity. I specialized in Middle Eastern Studies and French, which taught me that experiences change depending on which nation you come from, and, interestingly, what language you speak. Good decisions, I learned, begin by comprehensively understanding the context.During this time, I started Hennaby.K, my henna business, where I learned how to make decisions for the well-being of a business. I managed and continue to manage all financial, marketing, and customer service decisions for Hennaby.k. I next organized TEDxUniversityofWindsor, where I was responsible for twelve team members and the execution of a prestigious conference. I honed in on my interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills in this role. I learned that to be a good decision-maker, you must also be a good team-player.Then, I worked with start-ups like FrenchLit. and Kindness Café, where I assisted Founders by brainstorming and executing improvements in business organization, processes, marketing, and overall strategy, all while deepening my French-speaking ability.Today, I sit in a Dual J.D. program amongst eighty-seven other brilliant minds. Every day, we decipher strong arguments from weak ones. Sometimes, “good” decisions benefit certain groups in society over others. Sometimes, there are valid disagreements to a good decision. Again, I\'m learning how complex judicial decisions are, and I am fascinated by this process. While I am currently pursuing a traditional legal path, I am open to working alongside researchers and non-legal decision-makers. Nonetheless, my contribution remains the same: I aim to assist people in making good, meaningful decisions - whatever that means!
