I work as a gateway of information for state social studies educators, bringing information from agencies and institutions to classroom teachers and administrators. I work with multiple state organizations and agencies across the state to gather information, consult on social studies and education topics, and guide strategic planning. In addition, I work with school districts planning to redesign or update their social studies curriculum. Discussions on best practices, research on social studies education, state law, and other topics help guide districts with their work. Questions about state statutes regarding social studies (such as standards, seat time, licensing, etc) come to me. I also work with institutions of higher education that have social studies education programming for pre-service teachers. In addition to working to keep them up-to-date on state initiatives, I assist in planning (and later approving) changes to their program to meet state guidelines and law. The most fun part of my job, however, is working with classroom teachers. It is always the best, most energizing part of my job. I provide workshops and meeting opportunities, and present at district functions to assist teachers\' work in the classroom.
