I build products that secure critical military communications and let kids ride attractions at Disneyland. I keep your credit cards safe and help commuters catch their ferry in Sydney. I know how to attract top talent, craft stellar teams and give them a reason to change the world.I was raised in a sales family and learned to obsess over business value. I love to engage with customers and I connect with geeks as easily as the CEO. My career began in medical physics researching Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s. My work appeared on PBS Nova and in the New England Journal of Medicine. I love working across disciplines and have published in journals as diverse as Neurology and the Transactions on Nuclear Science. I edit Springer’s Journal of Cloud Computing.I get things done in large companies. I launched the sustainability initiative for storage products at NetApp. At IBM I built the first end-to-end development platform for SOAP Web services. At CA I created a product to help mobile devs build secure, collaborative apps, launched the first microservice gateway for securing container-based clouds and acquired a company that turns data into APIs. I was the Kevin O’Leary in CA’s Accelerator Program, the internal Shark Tank we use to evaluate startup pitches and manage their execution.Startups? I’ve been there too. I owned architecture at Infowave, pivoting it to a new product that brought wireless email to the PalmPilot. As CTO of Layer 7 I grew the company from founding into the #1 API Mgmt vendor, leading to acquisition by CA Technologies. At PHEMI I took an Apache-based big data system to the Azure cloud.I believe good communication is everything. I have published over 75 journal and magazine articles and edited key security standards. My first book was Professional JMS and my most recent is O’Reilly’s Securing Microservice APIs. I hold 14 US patents, and you can find me quoted in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. I’ve spoken at CES, RSA and over 150 other conferences—and I’m happy to speak at your event if it might inspire someone.
