ABOUT KEN SANDLIN

From running bluelines in my father’s practice at age 15 to producing buildings in a world class firm today, my life has revolved around architecture. During those years, I earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree while maintaining full-time employment working on residential and small commercial projects in architects’ offices. As a licensed architect in a high-end retail interiors firm, I completed numerous high-end retail projects across the country for retailers like Coach Leatherware, Joan and David and Gucci as well as over 50 commercial interiors project. When the construction industry began to utilize computer technology, I led the CAD revolution in that firm. After nearly 18 years, I left the practice of architecture to lead the technology revolution at one of the largest reprographics firms in the country and spent several years developing and promoting document management solutions for the A/E/C industry. After a 15-year hiatus from practice and much soul-searching, the lure of architecture became too strong and I regained my license and re-entered the profession as an architect. For several years, I had the opportunity to focus on healthcare architecture. I have completed or helped to complete several dialysis clinics, both as tenant improvement projects and freestanding buildings. At Page, I have been privileged to work with an outstanding team of professional architects and engineers to complete the buildout of a major SF regional hospital. I have consulted with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) to resolve significant accessibility issues at one of their hospitals. I have gained experience in behavioral health, working on two psychiatric hospital renovation and addition projects, as well as a mental health clinic for the Veteran’s Administration. Currently, I am working in the urban residential market. I have worked on some exciting high-rise projects with a great team of architects. I have also continued to expand my expertise in accessibility and am now well-versed in all aspects of Title of the ADA and the plethora of guidelines and rules that the construction industry must meet to provide an accessibility to the built environment.
