ABOUT KRYSTLE FORBES

Krystle is an experienced educator and career advisor with a history of working in student support services, and professional development. She believes professional decisions begin with an understanding of self and awareness of goals, and strives to promote such knowledge through student-centered coaching and development. Krystle\'s long-term mission is to create hospitable services and spaces where learners can discover, engage, and articulate their passions. She strives to build tangible professional development skills (like writing a resume or cover letter) and create a community where students feel supported and comfortable. Krystle promotes others\' ability to reach their dreams and improve the world around them through developing individual action plans identifying concrete the next step in a professional journey. Understanding that, from an administrative lens, this also means that programs must be thoughtfully assessed for value add and consideration of \'what\'s missing\'. Krystle has led the creation of and contributed to coaching and programmatic assessment highlighting accomplishments, value add, and storytelling about participants. These outcomes and reports have been used for strategic decision making, recruitment, and successful grant renewals.Krystle\'s professional journey highlights many roles in personal, educational, professional development advising including developing programming promoting college-ready behaviors with Boys Hope Girls Hope, assisting with the advancement of professional development with undergraduate veteran students at Michigan State University, and leading professional development activities both as a staff member with City Year and as a Student Affairs masters degree candidate. From both her education, professional training, and personal experience, Krystle is ready and prepared to meet advisees where they are and provide tailored support. Furthermore, Krystle\'s experience demonstrates her passion for teaching others. She currently teaches a career readiness course for the School of Information. Previously, she has provided direct classroom teaching and tutoring, facilitated a professional development and exploration course for first year, undergraduate Business students, and regularly delivers individual sessions to masters-level students. Additionally, she her work with the Spartan Marching Band Color Guard\'s leadership and training program demonstrates a commitment to use all experiences as educational opportunity for development.
