After 20+ years in healthcare IT, one thing I\'ve found to be true is that technology is almost never the hardest part. The greatest challenge and reward are the people, building teams that share trust not just open tickets, developing the analyst who doesn\'t yet see in themselves that they\'re going to run something someday, and creating enough psychological safety that someone will tell you when you are wrong or missing a key perspective. Along the way, my teams have done some remarkable things together. Recently we rolled out Epic across 6 states and 21 sites as the first PACE organization with PACE-specific workflows natively in the platform. A former team distributed COVID vaccines in seven days to a community in need while building the tools and workflows on the fly to accomplish that goal and regulatory restrictions. Oh and, we built a hospital wing in a parking garage. Some residual stress in those memories.\"We\" is deliberate. None of it was me.I believe in developing people, of building teams that outlast the project, and of the kind of culture where people want to stay. I also happen to spend a lot of time living the truth of what it means to be a “nerd” in healthcare, maximizing existing tools and using them in new ways to expand the value of care delivered thinking about AI and the cadre of tools now caught in the same wrapper and its governance like what it means to deploy these tools ethically and responsibly at scale.
