ABOUT KRISTINN MASON

My focus is very much on economic regulation. Most notably, over the last while I have owned and led delivery the PR24 Business Plan for Hafren Dyfrdwy (HD) – one of the two water companies owned by Severn Trent. Alongside this, I have external responsibility for leading on HD\'s regulatory interactions with Ofwat and for continuing to strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders in Wales. Internally, I sit on the HD Executive Committee, where I hold responsibility for the regulation portfolio, and lead and present on regulatory matters to HD Board. For those of us that live-and-breath economic regulation, delivering a regulatory business plan is a definite career highlight – it is an exciting challenge that comes with a real sense of achievement. In delivering our plan, I’ve had the great pleasure of managing a diverse matrix of talented and committed people that played a critical role in this delivery – from econometric cost-modellers and risk modellers to financeability experts, and from engineers to performance (outcomes) experts. In providing advice successfully at the highest levels, in a fast-paced environment, I fully-utilise my skills in negotiation, show economic leadership and take into account our own and wider research and analysis. In addition, as a highly-engaging public speaker, I have had regular experience with communicating complex ideas concisely to the most senior stakeholders and leaders within the business.Alongside my day job, I also volunteer as a Governor of the Ofsted-regulated Severn Trent Insourced Apprenticeships. This has allowed me to harness my regulatory background to support the apprenticeships scheme in moving through Ofsted’s regulatory processes. It has also allowed me to learn new skills in adapting to a role that is more hands-off and non-exec in nature than my day-to-day experiences.
