About Kristin Sheher Garvey

Extensive executive experience: My passion for leadership focuses on the human side of organizations. It’s the people that make everything work and it’s a leader’s responsibility to be intentional about creating a culture based on trust, mutual respect, and excellence. My organizational experience spans team building, change management, interpersonal communication, and talent management. In addition, my community engagement has given me opportunities to build expertise in community relations, civic engagement, public speaking, volunteer administration, facilitation and training, and board and staff relations.Solid foundation in organizational performance: As an accomplished nonprofit practitioner, I have gained critical experience in all aspects of organizational operations, including human resources and employee engagement; grant compliance, program and service implementation and evaluation, and information technology.Effective communication strategist: I am a strategic thinker with a penchant for “wordsmithing” and branding. I am experienced in writing content and producing a polished product that is effective in communicating key messages. Much of my responsibilities throughout my career has always included content development, marketing, and communication strategy. Along the way, I have also learned design principles and can produced quality products with sound graphic elements that are consistent with organizational branding requirements. Experienced in strategic planning: Having worked in the nonprofit and public sectors, I understand the reality of environments where financial, procedural, and resource constraints pose unique challenges. I have always found creative ways to overcome those challenges. Because of that, I am skilled at building relationships, finding consensus, and defining a shared sense of purpose through strategic planning.

   Indiana Housing And Community Development Authority Ihcda

   Feb 2022 — Present · Indianapolis, IN, US

   In my position as Director of Homeless Services, I lead a team of 22 people in fulfilling the IHCDA mission and meeting strategic and annual IHCDA operational and program goals by overseeing overall management for the agency’s Homeless-focused programming, including Continuum of Care (COC) grants, Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), and Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA), as well as managing the staffing for the Balance of State Continuum of Care and Homeless Management Information System. We are working to provide resources, training, and guidance to service providers so that they can help individuals and families achieve sustainable housing and self-sufficiency. Through these programs, IHCDA and its partners aim to reduce the number of people experiencing homelessness by connecting them to permanent housing and by ensuring that homelessness, when experienced, is rare, brief, and non-recurring.
